a little information about
how these came about
last summer i began collecting plant material and extracting the pigment for use as both watercolor and oil based paints and inks. the process required filtering the insoluble pigment through coffee filters resulting in a pigmented filter paper that i found too beautiful to throw away. using the filters as final layers in the papier mache process allows the subtlety of the natural colors to shine.
using a simple wire armature, newsprint and a lot of masking tape i find each owl’s distinctive personality and individual character emerging as i go.
i hope you enjoy the owls as much as i have enjoyed creating each one of them.
